On July 27, 2020, Dr. Amanda Ho joined our staff after completing her fellowship in Forensic Pathology at Dallas County Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences.  Welcome Dr. Ho!

After 30 years of service to the OME, Dr. Edward Leis retired.  We wish him well!

Dr. Brent Davis will replace Dr. Leis as Deputy Chief Medical Examiner.

On July 22, 2019, Dr. Andrew Guajardo joined our professional staff after having completed his fellowship in Forensic Pathology at New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque.  Dr. Guajardo is also board certified in Neuropathology. Welcome!

STAFFING UPDATE

The last of our new professional staff have arrived.  On August 1, 2017, Dr. Jason Lozano joined our staff after completing  his fellowship in Forensic Pathology with the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office in San Antonio.

On August 21, 2017, Dr. Kacy Krehbiel joined our staff having completed her fellowship in Forensic Pathology with the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque.

On August 15, 2017, Michael Staley  joined the OME in a newly formed position as Suicide Prevention Research Coordinator.  He will collect and analyze  data on suicides in Utah to better understand risk factors and assist other agencies with improving intervention programs.

NEW DOCTOR

On June 10, 2017, Dr. Zachary Michalicek joined the professional staff of the Utah OME.  Dr. Michalicek comes to us having just completed his fellowship in Forensic Pathology with the Cook County Medical Examiner Office in Chicago.  Welcome!

OFFICIAL OPENING

On June 1, 2017, there was an official opening ceremony for the State of Utah Module 2 facility which houses the Office of the Medical Examiner, the Utah State Crime Lab and a portion of the Dept. of Agriculture.  Many dignitaries were present which culminated with a ribbon cutting by Gov. Gary Herbert and tours of the facility.

WE HAVE MOVED

The OME relocated to our new facility on February 1, 2017.  Our new address is 4451 South 2700 West, Taylorsville, Utah.  To see what our new home looks like check out the photos on our ‘Facility’ page.

WELCOME!!!

On November 7, 2016, Joseph Pestaner M.D., joined the staff of the Utah OME.  He comes to us from Sacramento and has years of experience as a forensic pathologist.  He is also board certified in pediatric pathology.

FUTURE STAFFING ADDITIONS

Our recruitment process for additional doctors has been a success.  We have commitments from three doctors currently in their year of sub-specialty training in forensic pathology. They are:

Dr. Zachary Michalicek from Chicago

Dr. Kacy Krehbiel from Albuquerque

Dr. Jason Lozano from San Antonio

We anticipate their arrivals in July and August of 2017!

GOODBYE and THANK YOU

The Utah OME lost two of our Forensic Pathologists in August of 2016.

After 30 years of service to the OME, Dr. Todd Grey retired.

Dr. Julie Schrader resigned her position to become an Assistant Medical Examiner in Washoe County (Reno) Nevada.

We wish them both well in their new endeavors.

Dr. Erik Christensen was selected to replace Dr. Grey as the Chief Medical Examiner.
